Maybe religious people will eventually be labelled as “reality challenged”.
Love it, LOL!
Right on the button. Nice one.
Heaven delivers us from those with skin
That’s so offensively thin
As to fly to indignant rage
On every newspaper page
Thus displaying they are crazy and dim
People claiming to believe in god are either ignorant (68%), lieing (17%), irredeemably stupid (9%) or mentally ill (6%).
That was a made up fact, but I think we’d all agree its true.
With apologies to Stewart Lee.
I ask this with some fear & trepidation but – why have I not heard for some time from Acolyte, Fenton, and dear Mary 2?
And could White Squirrel kindly change his avatar. The colours are similar to Mary 2’s and my heart flutters when his appears in my fringe vision.
Heeeeeeey, I should totally try that.
Mahatma Coat:
I don’t know their reasons, but I stayed away for some time because the quality of the posts started bearing an inverse relationship to their quantity. Changing the subject entirely, I also find the WS avatar distressing.
Nassar+Ben+Houdja, careful. That could be seen as offensive to sufferers bulimia, or anorexia.
You never mention the Very Virgin UNOHOO or any of the Prphlet’s wives. Are you mysoginists?
You never mention the Very Virgin UNOHOO or any of the Prophets wives. Are you mysoginists?
his?
if SHE changed HER avatar image it would not be the pink unicorn but some other colour
Matt,
Remember that 28.03% of all statistics are made up.
Okay, if there’s ever a “best of” collection of these, this one HAS GOT TO BE included!
CDC Surveillance activities that monitor mental illness report that about 25 percent of all U.S. adults have a mental illness and that nearly 50% of U.S. adults will develop at least one mental illness during their lifetime; Therefore in rebuttal to “Matt says” above, belonging and/or believing in a religion reveals no more or less about a person’s formal education, mental abilities, honesty or lack thereof…such shallow, vindictive, and unproductive tirades only does harm to all of us seeking an honest debate, new information, a little good fun, and perhaps even a little enlightenment…if only by mistake.
i note the figures = 100%
but what is to say that some dont belong to two or more categories
that about 25 percent of all U.S. adults have a mental illness
only 25% ?
Whoa, Guinness. Good choice, lads.
A definite spoing
I’ve been criticized many times for describing religious belief as a mental illness however it is hard to get away from the similarities. Superstition, delusion, the need to cling to and worship a murderous superior, contagion (passing it on to young family members) and other descriptors sound like, walk like, talk like a mental illness. Ridicule is a painful cure that leaves scars but like surgery, it works, if not in every badly infected case, then at least in containing the spread. Reason is much more socially acceptable but its efficacy is relatively poor, only working on those amenable to reason and therefore not badly infected. The treatment should reflect the severity of the illness.
I stared at the 4th frame for 30 seconds waiting for Mo to blink, I guess that’s 30 seconds I’ll never get back huh?
Derek says:

“eventually”? Are you new here?
Of course I (as an etymologist) am offended by people who don’t realise that ‘crazy’ properly refers to cracks (as in ‘crazy paving’)
From the OED
Forms: ME–16 crase, ME– crayse, 15–16 craise, 15– craze.
Etymology: A fuller form acrase, acraze v., is known in 16th cent.; if this existed earlier, the probability would be that crase was aphetic for acrase, and this < Old French acraser, variant of écraser. The latter is supposed to be of Norse origin: compare Swedish krasa to crackle, slå i kras to dash in pieces. If not aphetic for acrase, the English crase may be immediately from the Scandinavian word.
Richardelguru – interesting! Also that words we use for crazy are “cracked” and “crackpot”.
In the past I’ve referred to a very funny comedian as being a “Crack-Up”.
Hotrats, “I stayed away for some time because the quality of the posts started bearing an inverse relationship to their quantity.”
And your absence did nothing at all to alleviate this situation. Nice to have you back.
Then there was the government employee who was fired for using, correctly, the word “niggardly”, after some illiterates raised an uproar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_about_the_word_%22niggardly%22
I generally approve of political correctness when it means avoiding words that insult or demean an already disenfranchised group. But there are occasions when it goes too far. I shall continue to describe crazy beliefs and ideas as crazy. After all, the mentally ill are characterized by crazy ideas. To say that something is crazy, i.e. the result of a defective mental process, seems perfectly accurate.
Author, your strips always inspire interesting thoughts. Thanks again.
Somehow this reminds me of Pink Floyd and ‘Brain damage – the lunatic’ :

Aren’t we all trying to keep the meshuggener non compos mentis on the path?
Jhdore, but drinking Guinness from the can is crude, it doesn’t allow a proper head to develop.
can Mo get alcohol free guiness?
No, but since he is crazy he is excused.
Islamic Law rules that the insane are excused they will have no reckoning and all their sins will be forgiven. “Allah burdens not an individual more than his capability” Quran 2.286 ( http://www.fiqh.org/2009/04/every-illness-has-a-cure-the-islamic-perspective/ )
Offence is in the eye of the beholder
I think Matt’s Stewart Lee reference was lost on the US contingent, as was his satire… Oh well. You don’t have to be crazy to comment here, but it helps…
Totally OT but just wanted to share this great song about Kim Davis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUM9QkHuWis&feature=youtu.be
JoJo – Stewart Lee is my comedy guru. Seen him perform so often, he probably thinks he’s got a stalker.
