loins
March 27th, 2019
It’s Ephesians 6:10-18, where Paul gets carried away with his metaphor.

I noticed neither of them are wearing a cup to guard their precious loins.
I guess such phallic protection is considered sinful, even though it’s also their weak spot, figuratively and literally.
Someone: “… neither of them are wearing a cup to guard their precious loins …”
How can you tell, when they are sitting/standing at a chest-high bar?
“14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;”
As far as I’m concerned, “righteous” (along with its derivatives) is the most disgusting word in the English language.
safety goggles of confirmation bias. well done, Author!
someone & son of glenner, my guess is there hidden from the chest down to give the alter boys some privacy.
It maybe stolen from Douglas Adams but surely they should invest in some fact sensitive sunglasses which instantly become opaque the moment anybody presents uncomfortably faith busting evidence, protecting the wearer who can thus continue with his/her deluded igorance…
LOL – I have to remember the “shin pads of peer reinforcement and safety googles of confirmation bias” for the next time it fits conveniently into a conversation.
Another great strip as ever which reminded me of the less than honourable Jonathan Aitken and his now infamous quote below before he was subsequently convicted of perjury and jailed where funnily enough he found God…
If it falls to me to start a fight to cut out the cancer of bent and twisted journalism in our country with the simple sword of truth and the trusty shield of British fair play, so be it. I am ready for the fight. The fight against falsehood and those who peddle it. My fight begins today. Thank you and good afternoon.
The passage probably sounded better in the original Greek.
Delightful. I must get me some shin pads of peer reinforcement. My mates here could contribute, eh. I think this one is my favourite of all your strips, Author. Thanks for the laugh.
Yup – a great cartoon.
But I cannot agree that righteous is the number one disgusting word.
In the UK at the present time our most disgusting word is “May”.
It has hundreds of uses, most of which are either obscene or deeply offensive.
It is also used throughout Europe to express disgust, confusion or massive disappointment.
RE: Deimos
You are referring to a prime use of May?
Hey. I was born in May!
This was funny, i like it ????????????????
“Rethink EVERYTHING?” Only on RARE occasions, J. Most of the time, the process of scientific discovery is less REVOLUTION than EVOLUTION, a refinement of what was already known or reinforcement from a different vector. This claim about scientists “changing their minds” all the time is among those assertions of believers that tick me off darn near more than anything else.
And as it comes to all that armor, I want to see it stop a 7.62 mm round, fired from a Christopher Hitchens carbine!
This will go down as one of my all-time favorites! Thanks for the chapter and verse in the email, and thanks for spending all that time with your nose in the “good” book so we no longer have to find this ridiculous shit on our own.
Sounds like the boys need a holiday to Scarfolk

Thanks Vittal – Ecclasiastes 1:9!
I reckon “hauntology” is just as useful as “Theology”. I reckon we should have had that at school rather than the ghastly RE they used to waste our time with…
“How can you tell, …?”, quoth Son of Glenner.
It’s the voices. If Jez or Mo were wearing nice tight cups, the pitch would be an octave higher.
efahi: Ah, that explains it!
Thank you for that information.
BTW: Isn’t Christianity taking the Jewish Scriptures about the last word in cultural appropriation, next to taking the whole heritage including the genealogy.
Walter, no. There have been some later words said, typed, scrolled and screamed in cultural appropriation. For example, Mo’s lot klept the Christian texts to malform into their books, the Protestants of recent centuries borrowed the RCC scriptures to make versions similar to but different enough to lead to bombings and shootings and things, the Mormons stole the Christian Word to create their very own verses where Jesus had adventures in The Western Lands, Jimmy Jones and the Heaven’s Gate lot and Mr. Moon and whole rafts of others lifted sock-fulls of sacred scribblings from the major three schisms to make variations on the theme that supported their own scams.
It is happening even today with tele-evangelists and New Age cults hamming it up for their particular version of piety and profiteering.
Cultural appropriation is a rich field for those of a used-car-salesman bent when the source material is firmly in the public domain and lacks any form of copyright protection.
Maybe J and Mo’, at least one being a lich and therefore inheriting his own estate, should sue for royalties?
