Ah those elusive Judeo-Christian-islamic values neatly pinned down
Can you bake a cherry pie, bar maid?
hhmmm
Are the people at the talent show related to Barmaid?
Behold, the unchanging truth
Of muhammad, illiterate goof
The koran is abrogated
Or fiction inflated
On religion islam is a spoof.
I have no idea if the barmaid can bake a cherry pie, but I am certain that Jesus and Mo CAN bake a sky fairy pie.
So I did look up a few of the Quran verses Author referenced. And no, they don’t really reflect enlightenment on Islam. From my own experience with our Syrian refugees, I could say that any culture that forbids a woman from so much as shaking hands with a male friend and ally is obviously FUBAR. Though I do recognize that my sex appeal is such that the mere touch of my hand might arouse a perfect storm of erotic fantasies in the poor woman.
Gargleblaster, just a note that the previous thread is not dead yet.
And from the previous thread, I got a friend to submit a petition for me, in the interests of what remains of my anonymity. Please sign. It’s the least we can do for Stephen Gough, the Naked Rambler.

DH, I know and read your last comment there. Please post the url of the petition if you start one! I don’t consider myself knowledgeable enough to start one myself, but I will sign it, no doubt.
Good work DH, I have signed the petition and I hope more of the visitors of this fine establishment will.
May the blessings of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or another deity/being of choice, imaginary or not, rest upon the signers.
I’ve also checked the article of Qasim Rashid. He’s Ahmadiyya, his Quran numbering is often off by one, what he quotes as 4:35 you can find in 4:34. So here’s what he says about that verse: “Chapter 4:35 furthermore prevents violence against women by forcing men to control themselves and never resort to physically harming women – preempting physical abuse.”
Doesn’t it sound nice? The problem is, you can check online every word of the actual verse:
https://quran.com/4/34?translations=20,19
“Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband’s] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance – [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.”
Note: “strike them.”
That is certainly not “never resort to physically harming women” as claimed by Qasim Rashid. He simply lies. It’s not even cherry picking, it’s lying knowing that nobody dares to write in the major media that he really lies.
Let’s also look at his Quran. Indeed, it’s the 4:35 with is https://www.alislam.org/quran/view/?page=196®ion=EN
“…and chastise them.” That translator selected the word which traditionally means “punish, especially by beating.”
But the word in Arabic original still means “strike”:
http://corpus.quran.com/wordmorphology.jsp?location=(4:34:29)
Conclusion: Qasim Rashid simply lies.
Apparently unaware that Islam has failed to prevent the most egregious abuses of women’s rights in Pakistan, Saudi, Iran or Afghanistan, not to mention the Islamic State. He’s talking about that other, moderate, reasonable Islam that they have in, er, where was it?
DH:
Signed.
Good work, DH. I have signed, but I’m only number 11. I can’t share on Facebook, as I don’t like Facebook. I’ll try to get some help from WEIT.
I signed as number 15.
I thought playing a musical instrument was haram according to Sharia? Isn´t music itself forbidden? Mo needs to cherry pick the Hadith just to play the song in the first place!
I see the article in question has now disabled the comments. Probably overwhelmed by “hate speech”.
Flexibility
an Underfable
Once upon a time a Slave-Driver asked a Holy Book if slavery is righteous. The Holy Book quoted several of its passages calling slavery a divine blessing, ordained by the Lord.
Later an Abolitionist asked the Holy Book the same question. The Holy Book quoted several of its passages calling slavery a foul abomination, in defiance of the Lord.
Later still a Skeptic asked the Holy Book about those two opposite answers. The Holy Book said, “I am all things to all men.”
Moral: A meme’s gotta do what a meme’s gotta do.
Comment: That Holy Book may claim to be a message, but really it’s more like a language. There’s a verse in it for war, and a verse in it for peace; there are verses in it for love and for hate, for day and for night, for scattering stones and for gathering stones together. So what you say with it depends more upon you than upon it.
But though it says two things, you are free to quote one thing and not the other, and credit it to the Holy Book but not you. That’s your part of the bargain.
paradoctor, whichever of different books you consider “holy,” you surely don’t believe that the other books which are “holy” for the other religions are as holy as your “holy” book. So you are an unbeliever, because even you don’t believe in most of the books, the gods and the myths of the current world. And you don’t believe in even more those who were the gods of most of the people who lived only 2000 years ago (the Earth exists for 4.6 billion years already).
And every book is a product of humans, the humans who are only 1% genetically different from chimps, but consider themselves so important for that tiny difference.
ac, I think paradoctor was being satirical, or maybe playing God’s advocate. In any case, I don’t think that the Underfable (+1 for that, paradoctor) was a serious defence or justification of religion.
ac, that 1% is /very/ important. It accounts for us humans having enormous penises relative to the other apes.
Hammerhead, what do you mean, us humans? Do you have any idea how upsetting it is to nip behind a cage at the zoo for a pee and hearing a gorilla giggle?
ac:
Fundamentalist religions will always be able to find passages in their books, which, if obeyed, would be dangerous to people’s welfare. Assuming the world won’t become instantly atheist, the trick would be to convince people of faith to ignore all the bad commands. In the United States we sometimes talk about cafeteria Catholics, those who choose what to follow and not to follow, as if choosing from a menu.
It would be nice if:
“Peace and goodwill for all humanity” … yes, I’ll have that.
“Kill non-believers” … I’ll give that one a miss today, I’m on a diet.
I’ll have a small helping of “give to charity for the poor”, but let’s not have any “stoning of adulterers” today; I’m rather busy after lunch.
My wife is a very diet conscious cafeteria Catholic, in that she likes the current pope, and rejects everything else. 🙂
Excerpted from the article:
“I’m a Muslim, and a civil rights lawyer with a special interest in advocating for women’s rights.”
A Muslim advocating for women’s rights… isn’t that an oxymoron?? These religious nutbags need irony meters really bad.
What happened to the Exodus 34:26 cartoon?
Dude:
You mean they are now available in extra-strong versions?
Mine was supplied with a users’ manual that explicitly stated “Unfit for stronger religuous environments, (especially Islamitic)”
Qasim Rashid invents Koranic material. He should consider
6:116: Do not say about what your tongues describe falsely, “This is lawful and that is unlawful” so that you may forge the lie upon Allah. Surely, those who forge a lie upon Allah do not prosper.
(Actually he is prospering with this.)
10:69: Say: Verily those who invent a lie concerning Allah will not succeed.
20:61: Moses said unto them: Woe unto you! Invent not a lie against Allah, lest He extirpate you by some punishment. He who lieth faileth miserably.
DH, I signed (#21) and posted to Facebook. May the Naked Rambler continue to let it all hang out.
A group of nudists are sat at the table, having dinner, when one of them says “David, the next time you want something that’s out of reach, will you please ask for somebody to pass it?”
“What are you,” asks David, “a fucking table manners Nazi?”
“No. But I swear if you dangle that in the soup one more time I’ll cut the bloody thing off!”
Turned 70 today. Happy birthday to me, eh. As the window washer was heard to say as he fell from the eighty-seventh floor, “So far so good.”. Had a great day, full of music and laughter and love.
Thanks to all who signed the petition. And for those who haven’t signed yet, here’s the issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Gough
And here’s the petition. http://chn.ge/2zyZFeO Please sign.
Happy Birthday, DH!
Happy Birthday, DH!
Have one (or some more) of your favorite on me.
On your window washer:he became lucky; he did not splatter onto the pavement. At the second floor, he hit an extending nail with his left eye, which stopped his hall.
Happy birthday, DH. I know birthdays are very important to youngsters like yourself, a mere 70. Are you having a cake, with candles?
Wait till you get to my age (77). You’ll just be glad to still be alive.
(I make no apology for the split infinitive, remembering a recent discussion here.)
Also from the article
the author states that ‘Islam is the solution’
but
[sexual assault of women is] just as prevalent in Muslim majority Pakistan.
We all know the Islamic solution is a final one – ban women from leaving the home
Re Son of G: wait until you are 87… and alone…will you change your tune?
Thanks for all the birthday greetings. And a special thanks to Author, owner and manager of the best virtual pub in the whole world.
I see I came in just in time to wish DH a happy birthday, so: Happy birthday DH, and may many more follow! Have one from me, and a round for the other visitors too.
Anna O Zacher: I probably won’t make 87! In any case, I live on my own now, although I have some good friends a decade or two younger than myself.
But thank you for your concern.
Happy birthday DH!
Belated birthday wishes, DH, have a hair of the dog on me.
By the way, in case any of you are curious about who I am, here is me posting a comment…

JoJo that is hilarious. Good one.
Thanks again for the birthday greetings, belated and otherwise. I had a great day. I’m over it now. So let’s give it a rest, eh.
If I sound grumpy it’s because I celebrated the third day of my seventy-first year by giving up another molar in trade for an end to weeks of toothache. A good deal, but I sure hate to see another one go.
The Free the Naked Rambler petition is now up to twenty-five signatures. Comments are spot on. That’s great, but also pathetic. This is the Internet for fuck sakes. Twenty-five signatures? At this rate, Stephen Gough will be in jail for a long long time. Share the shit out of this, folks. Talk it up. Use your influence. Lean on friends and family. Mr. Gough needs our help. Don’t let him die in jail for walking around naked.

Author, please let me know if I’ve pushed this hard enough in the C&B and I will desist.
