    Faith, here’s an equivocator!

  2. Robin Barr says:

    I legitimately call BS!

  3. M27Holts says:

So because the myth man Jebus had no female acolytes, women cannot penetrate the body of Catholicism. Pity that rule doesnt apply to children of both sexes within the filthy confines of the rome based nonsense factory…

  4. Moomin says:

Hi all in the cock and bull, long time reader felt it was about time I added something to proceedings. As Wednesday rolls around I like to have a guess at what will be the week’s topic for J&M. Was definitely wrong this week I thought the irony meter would have been out for this quote from the pontiff that was reported when discussing social media and fake news.
“The way many platforms work often ends up favouring encounter between persons who think alike, shielding them from debate. These closed circuits facilitate the spread of fake news and false information, fomenting prejudice and hate. The proliferation of fake news is the expression of a culture that has lost its sense of truth and bends the facts to suit particular interests.”
Oh well I look forward to guessing again next week at least I got the source right!

  5. M27Holts says:

Hullo Moomin, give my regards to the snork maiden…I thought the catholic priests burning harry potter books in Poland might get the nod…

  6. Moomin says:

M27Holts, a book burning must have been a good candidate, some weeks the author must be spoilt for choice. The tricky but just be making the punchline surprising sometimes these stories so funny on their own there’s no punchline required.

  7. Michael says:

    @M27Holts:

The Vatican takes “Jesus had no female acolytes” as an excuse for not ordaining women as priests. However notice that they don’t take that argument far enough. Jesus never used a flush toilet so there should be outhouses behind every Catholic church and cathedral instead of modern plumbing fixtures. Consistency is not a religious virtue.

  8. Walter says:

Inconsistency is a religious value though. “Faith is believing things you know aren’t true” — Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

  9. Laripu says:

Walter, I like the Mark Twain quote (and almost anything by Mark Twain). I’ll give you another, from Paul Simon’s song “Proof”:
Faith, faith is an island in the setting sun
But proof, yeah, proof is the bottom line for everyone.

  10. Dr John the Wipper says:

    Laripu:
Yeah, that USED to be the case, but nowadays “Proof is also just a feeling”

  11. M27Holts says:

Aye. Cultural Relativism. The steaming pile of shite that obscures every non scientific intellectual’s view of the real world…

  12. Troubleshooter says:

“Legitimate claims” … sez the Old Boys’ Club.

  13. machigai says:

    excuse me
    just checking

  14. Funny how I would have never noticed the qualifier on the Pope’s statement without the help of Author. That kind of thing just slides by me, and I take it to mean that their claims are all legitimate. Not that some of them might not be. I must learn to listen more critically.

  15. M27Holts says:

You cannot bring the canon into the 21st century. It was made statute 1600 years ago! If intelligent aliens are monitoring us I bet that their reports are top of the comedy ratings on the cosmic hyper web….
