This is off topic, but patrons of the Cock & Bull might enjoy the segment of the March 5, 2024 episode of The Daily Show where Ronny Chieng interviews Yuval Noah Harari (historian and author of Sapiens). The part about religion and Artificial Intelligence runs from 21:16 to 22:49. One source of the video is https://www..cc.com/episodes/gb5ko6/the-daily-show-march-5-2024-season-29-ep-14
Somehow an extra dot made it into the URL in my previous post. Here’s the correct URL: https://www.cc.com/episodes/gb5ko6/the-daily-show-march-5-2024-season-29-ep-14
Been there….several times…
Very quiet in here the landlord must have called “last orders”…
There is something you can say in Gaelic using four English words. Whale Oil Beef Hooked. Just say them together fast.
Jesus that’s an old un, secondary school 1976….
I went to my first Humanist cremation a few weeks back…far more moving than a religious ceremony. No bullshit, just life celebtation and the fact that the person only lives on as a meme…genes…to…memes….to oblivion…
For those of us who have zero knowledge of Gaelic, what does Whale Oil Beef Hooked mean, postdoggerel? And what kind of Gaelic is it? I don’t want to say it if it will incite a bar fight!
two cents’ worth, it’s kinda like when I was skiing one day in rock hard icy terrain and found myself at a stand still directly above a ski-lift tower on a steep slope, and nothing but concrete hard ice everywhere. I said, out loud, “Goddamnit, I don’t want to be here.” Then, from above, came a voice saying, “Go through it fast.” That made sense, and I am here to recount it. So, about the Gaelic part I can only say I knew a Welsh girl who taught me some of her language. I can recite it verbatim today.
Gaelic? Well I’ll be fucked then…
And light dawns over Marblehead (me) 😉 .
